Why AI-Generated Writing Falls Flat (and What to Do Instead)
Lately, everything on the Internet feels a little… off.
Social media captions. YouTube scripts. Email newsletters. That random lead magnet you downloaded last week…
It all sounds the same. Probably because it’s all coming from the same place: Chatgpt or other generative AI models.
And listen—I get it.
AI writing tools like ChatGPT are fast, easy, and free. They can help you kickstart an idea, or get something on the page.
But lately, my inbox has been filling up with ghostwriting inquiries that sound like this:
“Hey Rachel, I already have a book proposal written—just need someone to give it a little polish!”
Except when I open the file, it’s clear it was written by ChatGPT.
Like, painfully clear.
You’ve probably seen AI-speak all over the Internet. It sounds vaguely inspirational, but somehow says absolutely nothing. It goes in on the parallel structure (“It’s not X. It’s Y.). There may be a few too many em-dashes.
That’s AI-generated content.
Here’s the thing no one wants to admit:
No one actually wants to read a book written by AI.
When was the last time you thought,
“I’d love to read a totally formulaic, algorithm-generated book”?
Exactly.
Neither does your audience.
Whether you’re a founder, an influencer, a CEO, or someone who’s just starting out, one thing remains true: Your audience wants your voice.
Your perspective.
Your story.
They want your weird little tangents and deeply specific metaphors. The writing that surprises them. The writing that says something real. The writing that makes them laugh, wince, remember something they thought they’d forgotten.
But AI can’t do that.
It doesn’t know you like that.
Even if you feed it every journal entry, every blog post, every text you ever sent your best friend, it’s still going to miss what makes you…you.
Because it’s not designed to be original.
It’s designed to imitate.
That’s why your content is starting to sound generic, predictable, and just like everything else.
So if the words you want to put out into the world feel off lately…
If your book draft, Substack post, or marketing copy reads a little flat,
It might not be you.
It might be the tools you’re using.
And honestly?
Your story deserves better.
Your vision deserves to be in human hands. Your story should be crafted with voice, care, and depth. Not generated from a prompt.
My ghostwriting services are built for creatives, founders, and storytellers who want their books to actually feel (and sound) like them.
If you’re ready to ditch the robotic voice and write a book that connects with real readers, I’m now accepting new ghostwriting clients.
You can apply to my ghostwriting services right here:
Let’s make something that sounds like you.
If this post made you think (or made you side-eye your last AI-written draft 😅), come say hi over on Instagram @rachwrites. That’s where I share the behind-the-scenes of ghostwriting, book building, and writing life in real time.
